da BOXUN: On Thursday November 13, 2014 in Changsa City, Hunan Province, Changsha City, the deputy mayor of Liuyang dispatched 200 police officers and other hired muscle to a 67-mu tract of camellia trees used for the production of tea oil. They used forklifts to uproot the trees, which villagers in Yonghe Village had cultivated for more than a decade. The villagers resisted, many villagers were arrested and those observing and taking pictures also were beaten. Villagers had rejected the confiscation because the compensation they were offered was below market value and established procedures were not followed. Camellia tree oil in China is used as an edible oil.
